The Supaanam River

I will always appreciate the river trip up the Supaanam and over to Bethany. It is heartily surrounded by bushes and trees, many times so thick you can't hope to see beyond them. The river is frequented by locals paddling gently along, running errands of their own. Everyone is very polite and always wave a friendly hello to us as our boat slows down to pass without swamping them. Little houses are spread along the shore line at no particular interval. It's easy to smile seeing kids swimming and playing together in front of their homes, especially when their scraggly little bodies climb up trees and then sprawl off the branches and into the water for all they're worth. They are hilarious.

That trip we were even able to see a very seaworthy bunch of kids who had turned their regular wooden paddling boat into a home made sail boat. They took advantage of the steady breeze by lifting up two long wooden poles with a very large tarp tied on. It was working pretty well and they were all laughing and having a great time. I love people who know how to have a good time!
